I enjoy helping others develop a growth mindset in therapy because nothing in life is fixed, including your mindset. Changing how you see the world fundamentally alters your life experience, actions, and reality. By shifting from a default, often negative lens to a proactive, realistic yet optimistic lens, you transform obstacles into opportunities, increase personal fulfillment, and change how you respond to challenges, effectively changing your life.

Private-pay is an option for a variety of reasons, including situations where a client does not have insurance coverage or when Mindset Matters is not in network with your insurance plan.
Other reasons include:
Privacy Concerns
Insurance companies require a diagnosis to pay for services, which becomes part of your permanent medical record. This can possibly affect future life insurance or employment opportunities. They can also request session notes, progress, and treatment plans for reimbursement purposes. Private-pay can prevent unnecessary labels and increase confidentiality.
High Costs Despite Insurance
High deductibles or co-pays can make the insurance rate close to the private-pay rate, reducing the financial incentive to use insurance.
Medical Necessity Restrictions
Insurance only pays for treatment they deem "medically necessary," meaning they may force an end to therapy even if the patient and therapist feel more sessions are needed.
Control Over Care
Insurance can put limitations on the number of counseling sessions you can have, prior to truly completing the process. Private-pay allows patients and therapists to create personalized treatment plans without interference from insurance companies regarding therapy techniques being used or time frame.

Due to the increased complexity of health insurance in recent years, you are highly encouraged to consult your insurance plan's benefits documentation or call the member services number on the back of your card prior to scheduling any appointments in order to fully clarify your coverage for mental health services, if any.
Questions about your coverage and benefits? Didn’t see your plan listed on the pricing & services page? Please reach out through the contact form or email me. I can check if your insurance is in-network and verify your coverage before your first appointment. However, this is a courtesy and may not be 100% accurate.

Yes! When working with families, I believe that collaboration is key. I value open and honest communication and view parents and caregivers as essential partners in the therapeutic process. I aim to keep you involved throughout your child’s journey in therapy, regularly checking in on goals and progress or engaging in family therapy (if needed/requested). Together, we’ll explore strategies that help your child build emotional regulation skills, strengthen relationships, and improve overall well-being.

Session frequency is ultimately based on your needs, budget, and schedule. I recommend we start with weekly sessions to build rapport and skills and address acute symptoms.
We can taper down to less frequent sessions when symptoms have decreased and you are making consistent progress toward treatment goals. Your needs may change and we can always return to more frequent sessions if challenges arise.
